A senior Hamas spokesman is warning that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s vision of a broad regional alliance poses what he calls a “real threat” to Arab interests.
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem published a statement expressing concern over remarks by Benjamin Netanyahu about forming a new strategic axis linking Israel with Arab and other regional states.
Qassem claimed that Netanyahu’s comments about creating a new framework that would include Arab countries reflect “complete disregard” for influential Arab states in the region and represent a “real threat” to their interests.
Earlier in the day, Netanyahu outlined what he described as a broad strategic vision for Israel’s future regional integration. He said he envisions “a whole system, essentially a kind of hexagon of alliances around or within the Middle East,” adding that it would include India, Arab states, African countries, Mediterranean partners such as Greece and Cyprus, as well as additional Asian countries he did not specify.
