An antisemitic mob swarmed Park East Synagogue in New York City, waving Palestinian and Hezbollah flags, screaming “intifada revolution,” “No Zionists here,” and “Death to the IDF,” while making Hamas’ inverted triangle gesture, a symbol used to mark targets.
The synagogue’s preschool was forced to close early for safety reasons.
Instead of clearly condemning a mob targeting a Jewish house of worship, Mayor Mamdani first condemned the event inside the synagogue. His office said he was “deeply opposed” to it because it allegedly promoted property in West Bank settlements, which the statement called “illegal under international law.”
But making aliyah is not unlawful because Mamdani opposes Zionism. The government does not get to decide which Jewish gatherings are acceptable and which ones deserve public condemnation.
