The terror group claims new attacks and declares a “new phase” against Syria’s post-Assad leadership.
The Islamic State (ISIS) claimed responsibility Saturday for two attacks targeting a Syrian civilian and military personnel in northern and eastern Syria, signaling a renewed escalation against the regime of Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.
ISIS has intensified its campaign against al-Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammad al-Julani, who once led al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria before toppling the Assad regime and taking power in 2024.
In a recorded statement released Saturday, ISIS spokesman Abu Hudhayfah declared that Syria had “moved from Iranian occupation to Turkish-American occupation.” The message was distributed through channels affiliated with the terror organization.
