Turkey is preparing to begin supplying the Syrian Jihadist army with advanced offensive and defensive weapons and intends to appoint a senior officer as a military advisor to the Syrian Ministry of Defense, the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported.
The weapons package will include fighter jets, air defense systems and armored vehicles, as part of joint defense agreements and brotherly relations between the two countries.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, National Defense Minister Yasser Guler and National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Director Ibrahim Kalin met with Syrian President Ahmed Sherer in Damascus this week.
A revolution broke out in Syria on December 8. According to the Turkish newspaper, external powers, led by Iran and Israel, are making intensive efforts to destabilize Syria, which has been embroiled in a civil war for 13 years and has been ruled by the Baath regime for 61 years.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said, “We have warned in the past against provocations in this regard. This will not be the first time nor the last. It is important to take administrative and political measures against these provocations.” Syria faces a very difficult task, but Turkey is the guarantor of its stability. Therefore, they will not succeed in their effort.
