“Suddenly, a hand appeared,” one fighter described. “We immediately opened fire until the threat was completely neutralized.”
In one of the most intense encounters revealed so far from the fighting in southern Lebanon, snipers from the IDF’s 890 Battalion described how they eliminated Hezbollah terrorists during a close-quarters battle in the Kasbah neighborhood of Bint Jbeil — their first combat mission beyond the border after crossing into enemy territory last month.
The incident began during a final sweep of a suspicious building. Fighters noticed that the entrance door was partially open — something the troops immediately identified as unusual after weeks of fighting in the area.
A drone sent inside initially detected only weapons and food supplies. Following standard operational procedure, an Oketz canine unit was deployed to search for explosives. But moments later, gunfire erupted from inside the building after the attack dog “Barney” located armed Hezbollah terrorists hiding within.
