Joudeh says the Arab-Israeli conflict is now only one regional issue among many, while energy, security and development have become equally urgent priorities.
Syrian political activist Anas Joudeh said there is “nothing wrong” with making peace with Israel in principle, arguing that the region’s political agenda can no longer revolve entirely around the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Speaking in a June 29 interview, Joudeh said that while he previously criticized Syria’s participation in the 1991 Madrid Conference, he has since accepted the concept of land for peace.
He questioned how long the so-called “resistance project” is expected to continue and what its actual goals are. In contrast, he said, the objectives of peace are clear and can be measured through security, stability and economic development.
