Since the beginning of 2023, the Jordanian army has managed to shoot down nine drones that came from southern Syria and were carrying drugs, in one case the drone had a TNT-type explosive charge on it.
The latest incident happened on Monday when the Jordanian army announced the interception of a drone carrying crystal meth.
Jordan serves as a transit station for the drugs produced in Syria on their way to the Gulf markets. Israel also needs to keep a watchful eye on what is happening on the Syrian-Jordanian border, since recently there has been an increase in the smuggling of amlach from Jordan through the Israeli border to both terrorist and criminal elements.
Jordan claims that those behind the smuggling using the drones are militias linked to Iran located in southern Syria.
So far it is known that in response to the smuggling, Jordan carried out two aerial bombs in southern Syria on what it described as drug production sites - with the latest attack occurring just last week.
