Henry Nowak, a first-year student at the University of Southampton, was out with friends when he was stabbed by 23-year-old Vickrum Digwa.

The Police Response: When police arrived on the scene, Digwa claimed he was the victim of a racist attack by Nowak and that his turban had been knocked off. Officers took Digwa at his word. Bodycam footage shows Nowak lying on his back, bleeding from the mouth, repeatedly telling officers he had been stabbed and couldn't breathe.
The Handcuffing: Officers dismissed Nowak's pleas, with one saying, "Don't think you have, mate." They grabbed his wrists, handcuffed him, and read him his rights for assault. By the time officers realized he actually had severe stab wounds and uncuffed him to perform CPR, he had lost consciousness and later died.
