Mamdani campaigned on giving New Yorkers “free everything,” but immediately after winning, he asked the public for $4 million to fund a transition team he claimed needed to process “50,000 resumes.”
In reality, his 400-member team across 17 committees is filled almost entirely with the same radical activists, Democratic Socialists of America allies, and Islamist figures who backed his campaign.
A striking number of the committee members come from Islamist political networks, with heavily Arab and Muslim representation across arts, safety, legal affairs, and immigrant-justice committees.
Mamdani had falsely claimed he no longer supported defunding the police. Yet his public-safety committee includes Alex Vitale, author of The End of Policing, who has repeatedly called for eliminating the police entirely, legalizing crimes, and replacing law enforcement with ideological social-service structures.
