President Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, accused Democratic governors of obstructing federal immigration enforcement to strengthen their political power.
Speaking to Newsmax, Homan singled out New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill, arguing that their sanctuary policies protect illegal immigrants while making it more difficult and dangerous for ICE agents to arrest criminals.
Homan said cooperation between local jails and federal immigration authorities allows ICE to arrest illegal immigrants safely while they are already in custody. When states block that cooperation, federal agents must locate suspects in neighborhoods and workplaces, requiring larger operations and putting officers and the public at greater risk.
“They sold this country out for political power,” Homan charged, accusing Democrats of placing illegal immigrants ahead of American citizens and public safety.
