The significance of the elimination of Qassem Suleimani - Yoni Ben-Menachem

The assassination of Qassem Suleimani was an important step in the war against Iranian expansion in the Middle East and its activities in the field of terrorism, two years after his assassination one can only speculate what the situation would be today if he had not been assassinated.

It was Suleimani who set up the "choke ring" around Israel and the project to arm the pro-Iranian branches in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen and the Gaza Strip with rockets, precision missiles and UAVs that will be used against Israel in the future.

He was the one who set up ground platforms for terrorism against Israel in various places in the Middle East, he created a network of Shiite and Sunni fighters loyal to Iran from Afghanistan to Syria and Yemen.

Qassem Sulmani also played an important role in preventing the collapse of Syrian President Bashar Assad's rule during the Syrian civil war and in coordinating the entry of Russian military forces into Syria.

The assassination of Qassem Suleimani slowed down the process of tightening the military siege on Israel. In addition, the legacy of his lofty military status in Iran is also something that his successros General Amir Ali Haji Zada, commander of the Revolutionary Guards Air Force, and General Hussein Salami, commander of the Revolutionary Guards are not in a position to fill.

Israel has great success in the war against the Iranian military establishment in Syria, but the Iranian danger still exists, it may increase if a new nuclear agreement is signed between the powers and Iran as a result of the negotiations in Vienna.

According to Israeli security officials, any new agreement will inevitably lead to the partial or complete lifting of sanctions on Iran, resulting in large sums of money flowing into the Iranian Treasury and the Revolutionary Guards, allowing Iran to develop and strengthen its ballistic missile project and return money to Quds Force. To strengthen its branches in the Middle East, especially in activities against Israel and against American targets and moderate Sunni Arab regimes.

Iran claims to have been able to absorb and contain the severe blow inflicted on it by the assassination of Qassem Suleimani, but it confirms that it was a very painful blow that also constitutes a violation of Iran's national dignity.

The assassination of Qassem Suleimani was mainly aimed at undermining the operational capability of the Quds Force and creating a deterrent effect. It was clear from the outset that Iran would not change its nuclear, missile and regional strategy because of its assassination.

To this must be added the change in US policy towards Iran following the change of government, the Biden administration is actually changing the situation on the ground and helping, in face of its weakness, the Iranian regime to recover from the assassination of Qassem Suleimani.

According to senior statements in Iran, 2022 will be a year in which the effort to realize Qassem Suleimani's vision will intensify and the struggle against Israel and against the American presence in Iraq and Syria will only intensify. An Iranian political victory in the nuclear talks in Vienna will only encourage Iran to pursue this policy.

Syrian President Bashar Assad said two years ago that Syria could not enter into a military confrontation with the United States to expel it from the oil fields in Syria, but that task would be entrusted to the "Popular Resistance Forces", Iran is expected to play an important role in this campaign.

President Biden, meanwhile, is signaling, following his government's disgraceful withdrawal from Afghanistan, that the US does not intend to abandon the Middle East and its allies and that the US military presence in Iraq and Syria will continue.
