Fox News' Trey Yingst reports the latest after it was revealed an underground Iranian military headquarters location was obliterated by the U.S. military during the rescue operation to save a U.S. airman.
High-level U.S. sources tell Fox News that, while American forces were conducting a high-risk rescue of two downed airmen in Iran, the commander of U.S. Central Command ordered a precision strike on a hardened underground headquarters belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to the sources, Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, directed B-2 Spirit stealth bombers to attack an IRGC command facility buried in an underground bunker near Tehran.
The bombers delivered Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOPs)—the same powerful 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs used in last year’s Operation Midnight Hammer against Iran’s nuclear sites.
The headquarters was reportedly obliterated in the strike.
