An apology from the Maronites in Lebanon to the people of Israel

This is a piece written on the X account of Mount Levnon, a movement for the independence of a free (Christian) Maronite state committed to fostering peace and forging alliances with Israel.

The ones who should apologize to Israel are us, the Maronites.

We must apologize because after Bashir's (Gemayal, the Lebanese president who was assassinated by Syria) death, we lost our courage and severed the Maronite-Israeli ties.

We must apologize because we trained in Israel, received arms from Israel, and built the most formidable army in the region, only to later discard these weapons as if nothing ever happened.
