Al-Sisi's reasons for concern

These are not easy days for Egypt.

Tomorrow, if there is no unexpected turnaround, Ethiopia is set to generate for the first time energy from the dam of revival in which Cairo sees a threat to its water resources. The dam was built with an investment of about $5 billion and Ethiopia is expected to generate about 700 megawatts of electricity from it.

And if that is not enough, the crisis in Eastern Europe is likely to increase the burden on the Egyptian state budget. Egypt relies on wheat imports from Russia and Ukraine and tensions between the two have already led to a 7% rise in world market prices.

If a war breaks out, prices will skyrocket and the supply chain will be damaged. Egypt has already started looking for an alternative to importing wheat from countries like India and Brazil but obviously they will have to pay more. The positive news is that currently in Egypt the stock of wheat is enough for 5 months so Egypt has breathing space in this aspect.

NEWSRAEL: It should be noted that water is, like for most Middle Eastern and African nations a very big problem. The new dam in Ethiopia controls much of the water that enters the Nile river, which in turn is Egypt's only source. Just to understand, analysts and military analysts have gone on record demanding Egypt bomb the new dam. Ethiopia and Egypt have sat many times in negotiations regarding what Egypt sees as a threat. It will be very interesting to see the Egyptian response to this.
