American airstrikes have severely damaged Iran’s strategic Chabahar port, disrupting one of Tehran’s most important remaining trade routes outside the Persian Gulf.
According to reports, the strikes destroyed the port’s maritime control tower and damaged the Shahid Beheshti and Shahid Kalantari terminals. Initial claims that the port had been completely destroyed appear exaggerated, but operations are reportedly continuing only under significant restrictions.
Chabahar, located on the Gulf of Oman, is strategically important because it gives Iran direct access to the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean without requiring ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
The attack could further restrict Iran’s ability to export energy and conduct international trade as Washington intensifies economic and military pressure on the regime.
