Joint statement by the IDF Spokesperson and the Shin Bet: In response to a serious violation of the agreement overnight, during which terrorists fired at IDF forces operating in northern Gaza, the IDF and the Shin Bet carried out a strike earlier today (Wednesday) against a Hamas terrorist in the southern Gaza Strip.
The strike targeted Bilal Abu Atsi, a Nukhba company commander in the Hamas terror organization who led the raid on Kibbutz Nir Oz during the brutal massacre on October 7, in which dozens of civilians were abducted and murdered. The terrorist was also likely involved in holding deceased hostages in captivity throughout the war and led additional terror plots against IDF forces.
Claims have been made that several uninvolved individuals were harmed in the strike, including a medical staff member. Prior to and during the strike, measures were taken to minimize harm to civilians as much as possible, including the use of aerial surveillance and precision-guided munitions. The IDF regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals.
The IDF and the Shin Bet will continue to act against any attempts by terror organizations in the Gaza Strip to carry out attacks against IDF forces and Israeli civilians, while making every effort to reduce harm to uninvolved civilians.
