Israel and its citizens remain deeply grateful to the United States and to President Donald Trump’s administration. American military and diplomatic support has been critical.
But gratitude cannot erase reality: Israel has borne the overwhelming human, social and political cost of this war — and its interests cannot now be pushed aside as agreements and memoranda are signed.
American troops will eventually return home. Israel will remain here, surrounded by enemies in a Middle East that is still far from safe.
For nearly three years, Israel has fought on seven fronts. Close to 1,000 Israeli soldiers have been killed and tens of thousands wounded — even before counting the civilians murdered, wounded and kidnapped on October 7.
