Massad Boulos says the US president would speak with Hezbollah at Lebanon’s request, while warning of severe consequences if the terrorist organization obstructs the new security framework.
President Donald Trump is prepared to hold talks with Hezbollah if such contact is necessary to advance peace and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun requests it, according to Trump’s senior adviser on Arab affairs, Massad Boulos.
Speaking to Lebanon’s Al-Jadeed television, Boulos described Trump as a “president of peace” who is willing to communicate with all parties involved in a diplomatic initiative—including Hezbollah. He called the US-sponsored framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon a major achievement for Washington, Jerusalem and Beirut.
However, Boulos stressed that any dialogue would not excuse Hezbollah from its obligations. He said Hezbollah and all other armed organizations in Lebanon must cooperate positively with the agreement, the Lebanese state and its institutions—particularly the Lebanese Army.
