A rare royal visit hints at shifting winds
A notable development yesterday in Jerusalem: the king of the Xhosa — the second-largest tribe in South Africa — arrived for an official visit and met with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar.
During this historic trip, the king and his delegation will meet Israeli hostages’ survivors and tour the Gaza Envelope communities that suffered Hamas terror.
This visit marks another step in Sa’ar’s broader diplomatic effort to strengthen Israel’s ties with countries and influential communities across the globe — including those whose governments have taken hostile stances toward Jerusalem. The Xhosa leadership holds significant cultural and political weight inside South Africa, and engagement with them may open new channels for cooperation despite the extreme anti-Israel rhetoric coming from the South African government in recent years.
