The law, already approved in preliminary reading states that it will be possible to revoke Israeli citizenship or a license for permanent residence in Israel from members of the families of terrorists, if their intention to carry out an attack is known, or following identification or words of praise for the attack
The next political storm?
Next week, the Knesset will hold a confidential discussion on the law on deporting families of terrorists, which was approved in a preliminary reading before the 10/7 massacre in October.
The law, which was initiated by members of the Knesset from the coalition and the opposition, led by Hanoch Milivitsky and Oded Forer, will reach a secret discussion in the Knesset committee headed by the chairman of the coalition Ofir Katz, in light of the lessons learned from the riots in the internal security committee's discussion of the death penalty law for terrorists.
As mentioned, the law has already been approved in the preliminary reading and will now be examined in preparation for its advancement to the first reading, after the coalition and opposition administrations decided to approve the continuation of discussions in committees on private laws that are already in the legislative process.
The law states that it will be possible to revoke Israeli citizenship or a license to reside in Israel permanently from members of the families of terrorists, if their intention to carry out an attack is known, or as a result of identification with or praise for the attack and the threat.
It should be noted that the legal adviser to the government already expressed opposition to the law last February due to international legal difficulties, stating that it is an "extreme sanction".
