According to the suspicion, the eggs were destined for distribution in the markets and supermarkets in and around Jerusalem. The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that one must be careful and purchase eggs only in regulated places, and make sure that they are packaged and signed as required.

In the first case, the inspectors, in cooperation with the Border Police, seized at the El Za’im checkpoint, east of Jerusalem about 6,000 eggs that were smuggled and transported by a private vehicle.

In the second case, which occurred 48 hours later, they seized About 4,500 eggs at the Hizma checkpoint next to the Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood in Jerusalem. In both cases, the suspects transported the eggs in a private vehicle, apparently in order not to arouse their suspicion. Also, they tried to hide the eggs under the sheets in the trunk and back seat of the vehicle. The eggs were transported without refrigeration and without any marking indicating their origin and the date they were laid.

According to the law, eggs are a sensitive product that must be transported refrigerated and marketed to the consumer only after they have been sorted and sealed at an approved sorting station. Eggs kept at an inappropriate temperature, or transported under transport conditions that do not meet the requirements of the veterinary services, constitute a real danger to public health and are therefore prohibited for consumption.
