A new Pew Research Center survey reveals a disturbing level of support for the Hamas terrorist organization among Muslim Americans.
According to the poll, 44% of Muslim Americans hold a favorable view of Hamas — far higher than any other religious group surveyed. Hamas received favorable ratings from 17% of Black Protestants, 8% of Catholics and 4% of White evangelical Protestants.
The results also revealed a sharp divide in attitudes toward Israelis. Only 26% of Muslim respondents expressed a favorable opinion of the Israeli people, compared with 74% of White evangelical Protestants, 55% of Black Protestants and 51% of Catholics.
The survey also identified a broader generational trend, with younger Americans across religious groups more likely to favor Palestinians over Israelis. Favorable attitudes toward Israelis have reportedly declined among both Republicans and Democrats over the past decade.
