Pentagon presses Japan, Australia on Taiwan war plans
The Pentagon is exerting diplomatic pressure on Japan and Australia to clarify their positions and roles in the event of a military conflict between the U.S. and China over Taiwan, according to a report by the Financial Times.

Sources familiar with the matter say that Elbridge Colby, head of U.S. defense policy, raised the issue during security talks with senior officials from Japan and Australia.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that strategic alliances in East Asia are backed by concrete commitments should regional tensions escalate.
