Arab social media erupted with claims that Israel dropped a “mini nuclear bomb” in Gaza — but the truth appears far less dramatic.
According to the Telegram channel @Defence_Index, “Breaking news: Israel dropped a new type of bomb in Gaza. Palestinians claim it was a ‘mini nuclear bomb,’ but analysis indicates it was most likely a thermobaric (vacuum) bomb.”
Thermobaric bombs explode by dispersing a fuel-air mixture, creating a massive pressure wave and intense heat. This can collapse structures and produce blast effects similar in appearance to a nuclear explosion, though it contains no nuclear material.
Analysts believe the weapon was used to strike an underground facility, where the immense vacuum effect following the blast could neutralize anyone inside—even if the bomb did not directly hit the tunnel or bunker.
