Ahead of the Paris Air Show, Israel’s Rafael defense company has revealed a range of new models of its laser interception system, which successfully carried out operational interceptions during the ongoing conflict on the northern front. These systems are now being offered for international sale.
The upgraded version of the “Iron Beam” system—known in Hebrew as Magen Or (Light Shield)—will be delivered to the IDF by the end of 2025. It is capable of intercepting drones, missiles, rockets, and other aerial threats over long ranges, at a cost of just a few shekels per shot.
In addition to the main Iron Beam system, Rafael is showcasing two new variants:
IRON BEAM M – A mobile laser system mounted on a truck, allowing it to relocate and provide defense for strategic and sensitive sites.
LITE BEAM – A lightweight, mobile laser system installed on armored vehicles such as APCs. It accompanies maneuvering ground forces into enemy territory, offering close-range protection from threats like drones and anti-tank missiles.
Rafael also disclosed the existence of a naval version of the laser interceptor, which can be mounted on ships to protect maritime assets.
According to Rafael, this marks the world’s first scientific and technological breakthrough of its kind—one that is expected to revolutionize air defense.
