WATCH: Saudi Arabia's first female astronaut heads to space

A scientist specializing in cancer stem-cell research is Saudi Arabia's first woman astronaut to go to the International Space Station.

Rayyanah Barnawi is a scientist specializing in cancer stem-cell research.

She heads to the International Space Station to focus on advancing breast cancer research.

The mission, run by Axiom Space, is expected to last eight days.

"Rayyanah is a very good scientist, she has done very well in her field of science and accordingly she was selected as one of the astronauts that will be able to fulfill the experiment that they will do on the International Space Station."
