The United States is advancing dramatic steps against Turkey over its ties with Hamas.
American lawmakers are pushing amendments to the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act that would restrict arms sales to Ankara, Middle East Eye reported.
One amendment, submitted by Republican Gus Bilirakis and Democrat Brad Schneider, stipulates that sales of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey would be banned unless the White House certifies Ankara is not providing “material support to Hamas or its affiliates.”
Another amendment requires the U.S. Departments of State, Defense, and Treasury to conduct comprehensive investigations into Turkey’s links with Hamas, including whether it provides sanctuary, financial assets, or operational space for senior Hamas figures.
