A large group of Muslim demonstrators blocked traffic on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon during a protest supporting Gaza.
The protest took place near the Bay Parkway exit, bringing traffic to a standstill as dozens of people performed prayers on the highway, holding Palestinian flags and chanting anti-Israel slogans.
NYPD officers were on the scene and eventually moved the protesters off the road without making arrests. Drivers stuck in traffic expressed frustration, with some honking and shouting at the protesters.
The demonstration was part of a nationwide call for action by pro-Gaza groups, and similar events were reported in other cities. While the protest ended peacefully, many criticized the disruption to a major thoroughfare used by thousands of New Yorkers.
