Top Boko Haram leader killed in Niger
A joint Sahel forces and Nigerian army operation in the Lake Chad basin has killed senior Boko Haram commander Ibrahim Mahamadu Doro, also known as “Abu Umaymah” and “Ibrahim Bakura.”
The strike took place on August 15 in the Diffa region of Niger, a stronghold for the group’s cross-border activity.
Doro was considered one of Boko Haram’s historic leaders, whose faction rejected pledging allegiance to ISIS. For years, he played a key role in turning the Nigeria–Chad border zone into a hub of terrorist operations. His death marks a major blow to the group’s operational capabilities in the region.
