Jordan has been silent since the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea began, even though it is paying a heavy economic price.
According to data published in the kingdom, cargo handling at the port of Aqaba decreased by 16% last month. And the number of ships arriving at the port of Aqaba, which is Jordan's only outlet to the sea, decreased that month by 14%, and a 33% drop in roller ships (carrying cars) was recorded.
This decline is a direct result of the security situation as well as the Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.
The only Jordanian port is in the Gulf of Aqaba which originates in the Red Sea.
At this stage, the Jordanians are only publishing the data on the decline in port activity and not the financial damage which should be particularly significant in a country that is not as rich in financial resources as Jordan.
