The horrific massacres taking place in northern Syria in recent days have significant implications.
First, when they see the Islamist massacres against the Alawites, the other communities, led by the Druze and Kurds, will not agree to disarm and become easy prey for the jihadists. This should strengthen ties to Israel.
On a broader level, this is expected to establish the scenario according to which a "united" Syria, as it was before 2011 under the Assad regime, will not exist under al-Joulani.
Given what is happening, al-Joulani's regime is not expected to be established, quite the opposite. Apart from jihadist terrorism, the regime has nothing to offer, certainly not economically, to the millions of poor Syrians (not that Assad had any).
