French cesareans were available at the EMMS Nazareth Hospital, the Mayanei HaYeshua Medical Center in Bβnei Brak, and the Shamir Medical Center (Assaf HaRofeh) in Beer Yaakov, near Tel Aviv.
The French c-section involves the mother lying on her side, an incision being made on the side and the baby being pulled from the side with forceps or a vacuum. Women are said to recover from the procedure faster than by traditional cesareans where the mother lies on her back and the baby is removed from her belly.
The Israeli Association of Obstetrics and Gynecology, along with the Israeli Society for Maternal and Fetal Medicine, published a position paper that raised suspicions of a high rate of complications for mothers and newborns following the surgery.
