Washington, D.C. – The United States has successfully eliminated key Houthi leaders in targeted airstrikes in Yemen, National Security Advisor Mike Walz confirmed on Sunday. The strikes come as part of an ongoing effort to curb the Iran-backed rebel group’s aggressive actions in the region.
Speaking to reporters, Walz stated that the U.S. military executed precise operations against high-value Houthi targets, dealing a significant blow to their leadership structure.
“We have successfully eliminated top Houthi leaders responsible for orchestrating attacks in the region,” Walz said. “These strikes are part of our commitment to maintaining stability and protecting our allies in the Middle East.”
The Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, have been engaged in a prolonged conflict with the internationally recognized Yemeni government and its Saudi-led coalition allies. In recent months, Houthi forces have escalated their missile and drone attacks, threatening regional security and commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea.
Walz emphasized that these strikes are a response to continued provocations by the Houthis, who have targeted military and civilian infrastructure. “We will not allow terrorist organizations to threaten international stability. Our operations are precise, and we will continue to disrupt their capabilities,” he added.
While the U.S. has not disclosed specific details on the number of casualties, reports indicate that the airstrikes successfully neutralized senior figures within the Houthi leadership. The Yemeni government and its allies have welcomed the operation, viewing it as a crucial step in weakening the insurgents’ ability to wage war.
Iran has yet to issue an official response, but past incidents suggest that Tehran will likely condemn the strikes and continue its support for the Houthis.
This latest action underscores the Biden administration’s stance on countering Iranian influence in the region while reaffirming Washington’s commitment to its allies in the Middle East. As tensions persist, the U.S. military remains on high alert, ready to take further action if necessary.
