Europe’s famous San Fermín festival opened under a giant banner calling explicitly for the destruction of the Jewish state.
A massive banner reading “Destroy Israel” was displayed Monday in Pamplona’s City Hall Square during the opening ceremony of Spain’s world-famous San Fermín festival.
The banner featured an Israeli flag crossed out by a red line. Numerous Palestinian flags and inflatable watermelons, now widely used as symbols of the Palestinian cause, were also visible among the crowd.
A Basque socialist organization claimed responsibility for bringing the banner to the square, saying it wanted to promote socialism while delivering a message against what it called Israel’s “Zionist entity.”
