NEWSRAEL: We are attaching the FULL video of the Beirut port explosion to show once again the magnitude of the blast.
The Attorney General of Lebanon cancels the arrest warrants for the suspects in the Beirut port explosion, which were issued by the special prosecutor Tarek Bitar for the disaster and orders the release of all those arrested in the case under restrictive conditions.
Families of victims, who have been steadily demonstrating (sometimes violently) to see those responsible for the huge explosion which killed at least 218 along with 7,000 injuries, and US$15 billion in property damage on August 4, 2020, are to be disappointed once again.
After many delays, two days ago, the Special Prosecutor in the case submitted warrants for suspects in the case. After a big sigh of relief in the country, the Attorney General has today canceled these warrants.
The reason for this act of the Attorney General was explained that the special prosecutor in the explosion case exceeded his authority when he issued the arrest warrants to the suspects.
The special prosecutor in the case of the explosion Tarek Bitar responded to the decision of the attorney general to release the detainees, the Lebanese MTV channel reports. According to him, he does not intend to walk away from the investigation
of the affair and that the Attorney General is entitled to cancel the arrest warrants.
