PM Netanyahu: ‘Israel’s independence is not taken for granted’

Jerusalem, 25 April, 2023 (TPS) -- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a message of condolence to the bereaved families of fallen IDF soldiers on the occasion of Israel’s National Memorial Day (Yom HaZikaron in Hebrew) for the Fallen Soldiers of the Wars of Israel and Victims of Actions of Terrorism which is observed every year on the day before Independence Day. It began Monday night.

Netanyahu addressed his comments to “My brothers and sisters, the bereaved family, my family,” including his own because the Prime Minister’s older brother Yonatan Netanyahu was killed during the 1976 operation that rescued Israelis taken hostage by Arab terrorists who were held at the Entebbe airport in Uganda.

“Memorial Day, as its name implies, gives us all an important reminder that Israel’s independence is not taken for granted,” he said.

“On this holy day, we remember the sacrifice of the fallen, the terrible pain of the families, And no less than that – our being one people.”
