Israeli forces launched a focused operation at 06:30 this morning in eastern Rafah, targeting a major underground terror hub. During the raid, 15 terrorists surfaced from the tunnel system and were immediately identified.
At least six were eliminated, four retreated back underground, and 5 were captured alive and transferred to Shin Bet interrogation. The detainee claimed the group had emerged to obtain food and water.
Security officials assess that roughly 60 terrorists remain alive inside the network, likely including the battalion commander overseeing the area. The operation is ongoing, as Israeli forces continue tightening pressure on the remaining terrorists entrenched below ground.
The IDF says after an initial investigation that 15 terrorists emerged from an underground infrastructure in Rafah, from two adjacent shafts, against the backdrop of IDF activity to destroy tunnels and terror infrastructures above and below ground. 6 terrorists were eliminated from the air, 5 were arrested by Nahal Brigade fighters and taken for investigation by the Shin Bet.
