A senior Iranian lawmaker says the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its pre-war status, signaling that Tehran is already trying to rewrite the terms of the temporary agreement.
Iran is openly challenging the United States and the international community over the Strait of Hormuz, just weeks after the temporary memorandum with Washington was supposed to guarantee free and safe passage through the strategic waterway.
Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian parliament, declared that Iran supports the actions of the IRGC against the United States and claimed that the Strait of Hormuz will not return to the way it was before the war. He added that other countries will have no choice but to submit to Iran’s rules and instructions in those waters.
The statement comes after President Donald Trump issued a sharp warning to Tehran, making clear that the United States will not tolerate continued violations of the ceasefire understandings or attacks on international shipping.
