The French newspaper "Liberation" revealed a new scandal involving 4 senior Lebanese officials involved in the sale of passports worth thousands of euros and the granting of Lebanese citizenship to Syrians close to the Assad regime.
The newspaper published a report on Thursday, highlighting the governmental corruption in Lebanon in conjunction with the second anniversary of the Beirut port bombing, which revealed that 4,000 Lebanese passports were offered for sale, at prices ranging from 50-100 thousand euros per passport.
The newspaper, quoting sources involved in the process, said that preparations are now being made to grant citizenship to 4,000 non-Lebanese people, and explained that this will only be done after receiving approval from 4 senior officials in Lebanon, namely: the president and the prime minister and the ministers of the interior and finance.
