Israel’s ongoing strikes inside Iran appear increasingly focused not only on military capabilities, but also on the pillars that keep the regime in power.
By gathering the small amount of reports released by the IDF and occasional information from other credible sources, it appears that in the past three days Israel has concentrated significant efforts on striking sites connected to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Basij militia. These organizations form the backbone of the regime’s internal control system, responsible for suppressing protests and maintaining ideological loyalty across the country.
At the same time, President Donald Trump and his administration continue to insist that the war is not aimed at “regime change.” Israel, however, has been far less cautious in its messaging.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly hinted that the current campaign could open the door to political change inside Iran. The logic is straightforward: weakening the regime’s enforcement arms may give the Iranian public a rare opportunity to challenge the system that has ruled them for decades.
