Israel’s prime minister told lawmakers that internal pressure is mounting inside Iran, while stressing that Israel is preparing for a military option far more severe than past operations.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told members of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that a “critical mass” appears to be forming inside Iran aimed at toppling the Islamic Republic’s regime, though he cautioned that it remains unclear whether the momentum is sufficient to bring about real change.
According to participants in the closed-door discussion, Netanyahu said Israel is prepared for a very harsh blow against Iran—one that would go far beyond anything carried out during Operation Protective Edge. He emphasized that Israel is maintaining constant and close coordination with US President Donald Trump, even though Washington’s final decision on Iran is not yet known.
Netanyahu also raised concerns about Egypt’s accelerating military buildup, warning that Israel must closely monitor developments and act to prevent destabilizing arms accumulation. During the discussion, opposition MK Merav Michaeli reportedly quipped that Israel “won’t allow Egypt to strengthen—except when it comes to purchasing submarines,” prompting muted reactions in the room.
