Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli blasts UK’s Labor government, accusing it of pandering to “Hamas sympathizers.”
A senior Israeli official urged British Jews to move to Israel, citing an increasingly antisemitic atmosphere in the country and warning that the governing Labor party was contributing to public sentiment hostile to Jewish life.
Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli slammed the left-wing government in an explosive interview with the Daily Mail, saying that Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s government would never crack down on antisemitism in the country, because “terror supporters” are part of the party’s electoral base.
“Without a dramatic change of course by Britain’s political leadership, I see no future for Jewish life in England,” Chikli told the Mail, adding that he recommends British Jews make Aliyah to Israel while they still can.
Citing the Labor party’s decision to sanction members of the current Netanyahu coalition, Chikli said the move “crosses every red line between friendly nations” underscores the British government’s “hostile” stance towards Israel.
Chikli suggested that the anti-Israel moves made by the Labor party are “driven by simple electoral arithmetic.”
He noted that when Starmer condemned the starvation and torture of former captive Eli Sharabi, “he did not dare mention Hamas by name.”
The prime minister “knows full well that England’s Hamas sympathizers are a significant part of his base,” Chikli added.
A recent proposal by the government to designate Palestine Action as a terror group did not impress Chikli, who said that the move was irrelevant because “they permit dozens of marches where chants of ‘jihad’ and ‘from the river to the sea’ are heard.”
He also said that police had made “threats to arrest lone Jews on the grounds that they are ‘provoking’ simply by their presence or by holding critical signs near Hamas-supporter protests.”
According to a UK survey, 64 percent of British Jews reported experiencing antisemitism in their workplace since the October 7th Hamas massacres.
