In a January 9, 2026 appearance on Mayadeen TV, former Iranian diplomat Amir Mousavi issued aggressive threats against the United States and Israel, saying he does not rule out the possibility that Iran could initiate a military attack to “discipline” what he described as American and Zionist “bullies.”
Mousavi claimed that Donald Trump only frightens “cowards,” asserting that Iranians are not among them. He referred to Trump as a “treacherous terrorist” and a bully, insisting that the US president must be “humbled and disciplined” before any negotiations with Iran could take place, and only then on what he called “equal terms.”
The former diplomat further warned that Iran still possesses undisclosed “surprises” that it has not yet used against Israel and American interests. He added that if threats by the Americans, President Trump, and the “Zionists” continue or intensify, Tehran could decide to act militarily in order to impose what he described as discipline on its enemies in the region and beyond.
