Michela Broili revealed neo-Nazi and fascist tattoos on his body in a live broadcast. His Moroccan opponent: "I was in shock. This is a violation of the law"
A boxing match in Italy has caused a stir in recent days and has been widely covered in the media outside the country as well after one of the contestants entered the arena sporting neo-Nazi tattoos on his body. Michela Broili, a 28-year-old local boxer, was suspended after the fight by the Italian Boxing Association, which will decide his future fate.
Broili met Moroccan Hassan Noradin for a fight in Trieste on Sunday night and Noradin's hand was raised. After the fight, he said: "When I entered the arena and saw his tattoos, I was in shock."
The fight was broadcast live on the Gazzetta Dello Sport website and no one was ready for the situation because Broilly is not a famous boxer. He revealed on his body tattoos of neo-Nazi and fascist symbols, including "88" which are known to symbolize the letters HH, an acronym for the reading "Hail Hitler". Another tattoo bore the logo of a shaved head organization from the province of Veneto in northeastern Italy. Before the fight, Broilly also made a fascist salute to his crew.
Noradine, who lives in Italy, said: "There is no justification for this story. The Italian boxing association had to know about these tattoos in advance. It is a violation of the law."
