Two and a half weeks after the attack - the IDF and Shin Bet officially announce: Hamas leader Muhammad Sinwar has been eliminated; alongside him - Brigadier General Rafah Muhammad Shabaneh
The IDF Spokesperson and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced that it can now be confirmed that in a joint operation, on May 13, 2025, fighter jets struck in the Khan Younis area and eliminated the terrorist Muhammad Sinwar, head of the military wing of the Hamas terror organization.
In the same strike, the terrorists Muhammad Shabaneh, commander of Hamas's Rafah Brigade, and Mahdi Kuara, commander of the South Khan Younis Battalion, were also eliminated.
The terrorists were targeted while staying in an underground command and control complex beneath the European Hospital in Khan Younis, deliberately endangering the civilian population in and around the hospital. The strike was carried out by the Southern Command and the Air Force, based on precise intelligence guidance from Military Intelligence and the Shin Bet, with complex decisions made in real time by the IDF Chief of Staff and the head of the Shin Bet.
