The signing of the Framework Agreement between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by the United States, marks an unprecedented political turning point in the Lebanese arena.
For the first time since the May 17, 1983 agreement, official representatives of the two countries have signed a broad-ranging political-security document, even if it is not a peace agreement.
Now the real test of the agreement begins.
Senior political sources say that from Washington's perspective, the agreement fits into the regional concept led by the Trump administration: separating the Lebanese arena from the Iranian equation, strengthening the institutions of the Lebanese state, and making the Lebanese army the sole entity responsible for the country's security.
