NEWSRAEL: Copying it's tactics against Hamas and Hezbollah, Israel decimated the top commanders in Iran - and then eliminated their replacements.
Iran’s state media confirmed Wednesday that the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Ali Shadmani, has died from wounds sustained in recent Israeli airstrikes.
According to Reuters, the IRGC’s central command has vowed a “harsh response” following his death.
Israel’s military initially announced on June 17 that it had eliminated Shadmani, calling him “Iran’s chief of staff and top military commander.” However, reports now indicate that Shadmani was critically wounded in the strike and succumbed to his injuries only in the past few days.
Shadmani’s death comes amid a broader 12-day war between Israel and Iran that began on June 13. During the conflict, Israel launched strikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities, missile launch sites, and carried out targeted assassinations of top military officials and nuclear scientists.
Iran responded by firing missiles and launching drone attacks at multiple targets inside Israel.
The war escalated to involve the United States, which on Saturday night carried out airstrikes on three major nuclear sites in Iran—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
In retaliation, Iran attacked U.S. military bases in Qatar and Iraq. These counterstrikes caused no casualties. U.S. President Donald Trump then announced a ceasefire on Tuesday.
