QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A member of the American Republican Party and former senior advisor in the U.S. Department of State stated on Sunday that the United States remains engaged in Syria and will not abandon its partner in the fight against terrorism, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
Hazem Alghabra, a member of the Republican Party, told North Press, “The stance of U.S. Congress members and the ongoing preparation of sanctions legislation send a clear message regarding northeastern Syria. Washington will not abandon its allies.”
He added that Turkey’s assumption that President-elect Donald Trump would show little interest in the Syrian conflict is misguided.
On Dec. 20, two U.S. senators introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at imposing sanctions on Turkey for its attacks on the SDF.
