Police arrested five people for questioning Saturday night after a woman was found dead in an apartment in Musheirifa, a village near Umm al-Fahm in northern Israel as a surge in Arab sector homicides continues.
“Officers from the Umm al-Fahm police station and forensic investigators who arrived at the scene began to gather evidence… and managed after a short while to arrest five people suspected of involvement in the incident,” police said. The woman’s identity has not been released, and her body was transferred to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute for an autopsy.
The Abraham Initiatives, a non-profit organization that promotes Arab integration into Israeli society, reported 146 violent deaths in the Arab community this year, not including Saturday’s incident.
The spike is a continuation of the Arab sector’s 230 murders in 2024. In 2023, a record number of 244 Israeli-Arabs were murdered, more than double the 120 homicides in 2022.
