A coordinated digital assault reportedly cleared the skies for US fighter jets targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities last June.
US forces digitally disrupted Iranian air defense systems in 2025 as part of a broader operation aimed at destroying key elements of Tehran’s nuclear program, according to multiple American officials.
The cyber operation targeted a separate military network linked to nuclear sites in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan, preventing Iran from launching surface-to-air missiles at US aircraft entering Iranian airspace.
Officials described the attack as a sophisticated effort to exploit a mapped “aim point” within Iran’s military network — such as a router or server — rather than attempting a more difficult direct breach of heavily fortified nuclear facilities. The operation was reportedly enabled by intelligence from the National Security Agency and executed under US Cyber Command.
